Bis for Conegliano at the Sinis Peninsula
Spes beats Bergamo in three sets, gaining 5 more points for the Round Robin League. Next weekend the “Panthers” will be playing a friendly tournament in Valsesia.
Spes Conegliano doubled last year's success in the “Sinis Peninsula” tournament, beating a very young Norda Foppapedretti Bergamo in the final match. Last set was heavily battled by both teams, and ended with 28-26 points for the yellow-blue team. Yamamay Busto Arsizio stepped on the third place of the podium. This is the team where ex “Panthers” Francesca Marcon and Valentina Serena are playing during the coming season. To gain the bronze medal, Busto Arsizio has beaten Riso Scotti Pavia. Spes' win means 5 more points in the Round Robin League, and a current second place in the standings, shared with Piacenza. The latter still has anouther tournament to play in, meaning the “Panthers” will not gain access to the Italian Cup through the Round Robin League. Qualification to the Cup will depend on the Regular Season results. The first match will be at the Zoppas Arena on the November 28th, at 18 with the match Conegliano vs. Bergamo. In the meantime, all the strongest players will be back from the World Championship, thus available to Foppapedretti (Lo Bianco, Piccinini, Bosetti, Ortolani).
At the end of the final match, coach Dragan Nesic can finally smile: “It's a very positive result. We need victories in order to give ourself a good booster before the coming season starts. On the other hand, we must get over the present excitement very soon, knowing there is still a lot work to do. From the physical point of view, I am very happy about the way we played. However, we have to improve from the technical and tactical point of view.” During the weekend in Sardinia, the Serbian coach and athletic trainer Alessio Carraro got invited to a seminar including 90 local coaches. Spes coaches explained their techniques for physical, attack and defence training.
On Saturday, the team took the chance to visit the beautiful Sardinian territory. In Oristano's main square, they met boys and girls from local schools. Next appointment for Spes will be the 2nd Valsesia Trophy tournament, to be opened on Saturday, November 20th, at 17:30 by Bergamo vs.Sopot (Poland) in Borgosesia, while three hours later in Scopello, Conegliano will play against Novara. The finals will be on Sunday in Varallo (at 15:00 the third place match, and at 18:00 the final).
