In front of a conspicuous crowd of supporters, Spes gained its first friendly match against Verona. Two months from the official opening of Season 2010-2011, Nesic is very pleased: “We are on schedule.”
More than 300 supporters to welcome the “Panthers'” come back. For the first friendly match of the season at the Zoppas Arena against A2 Division club of Verona, Spes first team was almost complete. Only player Dragana Marinkovic could not make it, due to previous commitments with the Serbian national team. In her place, Dragan Nesic made use of Brazilian Do Carmo, young Bulgarians Rabadzhieva, and 18 years opposite-hitter Nikolova, on her trial period in Conegliano. The match ended 3-0 for the home team, but it has been prolonged further of an additional training set. Conegliano started playing with Diricx and Turlea on the diagonal, Fiorin and Serafin as hitters, Martinuzzo and Crozzolin as middle blockers, and Rossetto as libero.
After the match, Nesic commented: “I reckon the attitude was the right one, exactly what I was expecting after 18 days of training. Still, we must get better in a lot of things, starting with serving and reception. All in all though, I can say that everything is going as scheduled. As for the youngsters, I can see they possess enough confidence, and I am sure they will be helpful.”
Speaking about the match, young central Martinuzzo scored the first point of the season for Spes, with a block on Gentili. Thank to this, after a very balanced start in the match, home team gained an advantage. Rabadzhieva entered the courtyard at the end of set one, and scored the closing 25-17. The second set was way more balanced: Conegliano closed it off with a minimum 25-23. But Verona could not remain in the match any further, set three was completely dominated by Spes, which won with a clear 25-10.
