During the first training of
Season 2010-2011, held on Monday 6th at the Zoppas Arena, supporters were certainly not short in encouragements and appreciations for the brand new A1 Team. This new beginning was celebrated by a Prosecco toast at end of the training. Sunday the 12th, Spes joined the Associations' Day, in order to celebrate all clubs and associations in Conegliano and surroundings.
Spes first training turned out to be a big event. About one hundred supporters on the stands welcomed the Panters back at the Zoppas Arena. The club has had a troublesome summer, the risk of not being able to enrol for this year season was pending. Spes went through it all though, ending up with the creation of a brand new and highly motivated A1 team. On Monday morning president Giovanni Lucchetta explained the players Spes vision and mission, which are clearly revolving around Spes supporters, audience, and stakeholders. In the afternoon, the players gathered for their first practice. Photographs had the chance to take their first shots, watching the players warming up and playing a bit on the court yard. The day was called with a Prosecco toast, a symbolic gesture to celebrate the territory but also the Big Twelve and Italian Taste Team projects, through which Spes is promoting local food & drink products around the world.
During the coming weeks, Serafin and the team will eventually enter full preparation, under the guidance of Roberto Benis. Extra offsite training sessions are scheduled to take place outdoor (athletic pitch) and indoor (swimming pool). Training sessions held at the Zoppas Arena are open for every trainer or supporter eager to assist. The training schedule will be updated weekly and posted on the website. Training is currently managed by the vice coach Marco Gaspari, who will be replacing head coach Dragan Nesic until September 23rd, due to the latter's previous commitment with the Bulgerian National Team.
Previously head coach Nesic, during an interview broadcasted on Spes Channel (video can be found also on Youtube or spesvolley.it), has already forcast a particularly difficult tournament this year: "There are many expectations from everybody's side. It is hard to tell how we will be ranking at the end of the season, therefore I prefer not to talk about our targets right now. Many top athletes left Italy during the summer, and that makesit really unclear for a predictionon the coming tournement's end results. On top of that, we are still in the process of assessing our technical skills. But one thing I know for sure, it will be tough.”
On last Monday's training, both player Dragana Marinkovic and Giada Benazzi were missing. The first one is busy with the Serbian National Team, whereas the young Italian is representing our National Team at the Junior Beach Volley World Championship 2010 in Turkey. The rest of the team was right there: new entries Turlea, Dirickx, Crozzolin, Fiorin, Tonon, comeback Serafin, and reconfirmed Sangiuliano, Rossetto e Martinuzzo. Still belonging to the team is Luciana Do Carmo, who however might be leaving Conegliano. Supporters' subscription for season 2010-2011 is under way. Discounted passes will be available till September, 15th, 2010.
On Sunday, 12th, all of Spes activities have been presented during the Associations' Day, organised by the Municipality of Conegliano. Spes stand was set up with the Volunteers Team‘s help, and the pleasure to host supporters' association "Cuoredarena".
